Ownsteps

Do it once. The guide writes itself.

Ownsteps records the clicks you make in Chrome and turns them into a step-by-step guide with screenshots. Edit it, black out what’s private, and export it to Word, PDF or HTML. Everything stays on your computer.

No newsletter. One launch email, then your address is deleted.

How to create an invoice

4 steps, recorded just now

  1. 1
    Click New invoice
  2. 2
Type the client name in Client
  3. 3
    Type the total in Amount
  4. 4
    Click Save invoice

Three steps from clicks to a finished guide

  1. Record

Press Record and work as you normally would. Every click becomes a step, with a screenshot taken the moment you press the mouse button.

  2. Edit and redact

Rewrite steps, reorder or delete them, and black out names, emails or numbers. Redaction changes the image itself, so nothing is hidden underneath.

  3. Export

Download one HTML file, Markdown with images, a Word document or a PDF. The files open anywhere, with or without Ownsteps.

No account. No upload.

Guides often show customer records, internal tools and admin screens. Ownsteps has no server to send them to. Screenshots are stored in your browser and leave it only when you export a file.

The one network request Ownsteps ever makes is a single license check when you activate Pro.

Questions

Does it work on every website?

It works on regular web pages, single-page apps and same-site frames. Some pages draw everything on a canvas, such as Google Docs’ editing area, so Ownsteps can capture the screenshot but cannot read a button name there; you can type the step text yourself.

Where are my guides stored?

In your browser’s local storage on this computer. Uninstalling the extension deletes them, so export anything you want to keep first. Exported files are ordinary documents that stay yours.

Are typed passwords or form values recorded?

No. Ownsteps records which field you typed into, never what you typed, and skips password fields entirely.

Can I get a refund?

Yes, within 14 days of purchase, no questions asked. See the refund policy.

Who makes Ownsteps?
